January 1st - 3rd - Jennifer Gant's Blog

For those of you that don’t know Jennifer, she is my niece; Bill’s 3rd child (Bill is the 2nd & I'm the 3rd of 4). We are enjoying the heck out of her company. So, in celebration of Jennifer’s visit she is writing the blog during her stay with us. Yeh!

It’s day three of thirteen of my first visit to Kaua‘i. I’m really enjoying the nice weather, cloudy some parts of the day, but mostly perfect. First day we went straight to the beach after settling at my aunt’s house. The sand is super soft, and the water is the clearest ever. Not too cold, so you get used to it in a second. We ventured over to the Hyatt and visited the different pools. Everything there is amazing. It’s a nice change from 40-50 in AZ, where I left my scarf and gloves behind for when I have to come back for school. Yesterday (day 2), was loads of fun. We went and hung out at Shipwrecks Beach again, and grabbed some sun. Caught a quick bite to eat at home and were off again to Kapa’a for some canoeing.

We met up with Aunt Dawn's Kawaikini Canoe Club ladies on the river and went on a moonlight paddle. The moon lit up the river and in the dark with just the silhouettes of the trees made it very peaceful. Got a little crazy on the river, but it was definitely tons of fun, and we get to go paddling again, so I am excited. I have never been in a canoe or kayak before, so this was definitely a fun experience.

In general, the visit has started off great and living like a local is going to bring so many more experiences in the next week and a half. I’m sure I’ll have plenty more to share.

Later that day…. So the adventures have definitely continued with a trip to Hanapepe for a visit to the thrift shop for some souvenirs, but it was closed. We changed our destination to the Hanapepe Swinging Bridge, a common tourist spot. It was a really neat bridge overlooking the river and plenty of mountains in sight. Aunt Dawn spotted some tied bamboo floating along the river, so she thought it would be fun to have. She decided to stay at the top of the river bank, so she could keep her clothes clean and laugh at me as I ventured down the steep bank. The wind was on my side and helped push it closer to the edge, but that didn’t prevent my feet from going into the soft mud of the bank about ankle deep. Luckily, what I captured is very pretty, and I am hoping to send it home for decorating my apartment and remembering my adventure. Definitely check out the pictures from the trip so far, I’ve got plenty more to come with just three days down and ten to go. Aloha!
